U.S. Traffic Fatalities Increase in 2012

According to CNN Travel, the U.S. government reports a 9% increase in motor vehicle traffic fatalities for the first half of 2012, the largest jump during the first six months of any previous year since data was first collected in 1975.

A statistical projection from January through June estimates 16,290 people died in vehicular crashes this year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  The previous highest increase during the first half of the year was 6.4% in 1979.

With more traffic on the roads and continued deterioration of our roadways it is extremely important for drivers to eliminate driving distractions and always drive defensively. On October 18, 2012 from 1:00-2:00pm (EST) Sheakley will be conducting a webinar providing drivers with the knowledge and safe driving techniques to prevent collisions and violations.  Defensive driving means always trying to anticipate what may happen next, and being prepared to take action to avoid danger. To successfully do this, you must constantly monitor what is happening on the road, and plan ahead.
