The Shared Responsibility provision in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka PPACA or Obamacare) has been delayed for one year. Originally slated to be effective January 1, 2014, this provision has been delayed for one year to allow time to simplify reporting systems while employers move toward making coverage affordable and accessible, according to the U.S. Treasury Department’s July 2, 2013 announcement.
Employers with more than 50 full-time
employees are required to offer qualified, affordable coverage to all full-time employees and their dependents to meet this provision, or be subject to penalties.
Please note, Open Enrollment within the public exchange remains scheduled to begin October 1, 2013 and qualification steps for individuals and small businesses to purchase
coverage as of January 1, 2014 has not
changed (as of the July 2nd announcement).
