Green Year Only … Bureau of Workers’ Comp Safety Program Requirements

On November 30th, the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation’s Board of Directors approved changes to the Safety Program Requirements for Group Rating Program participants.

Employers participating in Group Rating or Group Retrospective Rating that sustain a claim during their green year period are required to either complete a BWC online accident analysis form and associated online safety class or complete two hours of safety training approved by BWC offered to employers by their sponsoring organization, sponsoring organizations third party administrator or the bureau.

The green year is the year a claim occurs prior to entering an employer’s experience period. The previous rule required employers who have sustained a claim outside of the green year to meet the training requirements, with the recent changes these employers have been omitted from the rule.
